SILK IS A LUXURY FIBRE AND ALTHOUGH WE PROMOTE IT AS ‘EVERY-DAY WEAR’ IT IS A DELICATE THAT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR ROBUST USE.
Silk is a protein fibre not that unlike human hair. If you think of it like this you know that although you may WASH it,
you must consider the following when washing:
Use a gentle detergent (many websites actually recommend human sham- poo which we have also tried successfully).
You must use cool water. Warmer temperatures damage the fibres.
Do not tumble dry or dry in direct sunlight. Again the heat damages/weakens the fibres which will result in shredding.
Drip dry in the shade after it has been gently squeezed with a towel to remove excess water. Do NOT wring dry agressively or again you may break/ damage the fibres.
When WEARING SILK please also consider:
Silk is a NON-elastic fibre. There is NO give, so when purchasing a woven silk garment such as a satin (eg. the Camilla Silk Cargo Pant) or a delicate chiffon be aware of having enough looseness to accomodate movement. Any point which receives stress will eventually tear. For example always ‘hitch your pants up’ when sitting so as not to catch them on the knee which may result in tearing over time. With shirts or dresses the stress point is on your back between your shoulders - do you have enough room to reach forward or bend over? Even if you do, certain actions require you to consider ‘re-arranging’ the garment so as not to tear it along the seam.
If you understand how to care for your silk garment it will enjoy a long happy life:-). We are not responsible for SILK garments which have not been treated appropriately or where an inappropriate size has been selected resulting in seam duress.
