My Summer Weekends

Favourite thing about January in Australia?
I love that even if you are working through January, it feels like being on vacation. Especially here in Melbourne because the city feels half empty, yet at the same time there are a lot of tourists roaming around having arrived for the Australian Open Tennis.
Usually we head down the coast. Sometimes it is for a day trip and sometimes for the whole weekend. We have a lot of friends with houses down both Peninsula’s or along the Great Ocean Road so we often visit them, if not to stay then to maybe meet for lunch.
What’s on the Menu?
Summer is definitely all about bar-b-que’s and easy eating options in our house. A lot of different salads take a front seat, and we generally have a relaxed approach. Without the rushed schedule of the school year it is basically “what do we feel like today?” On weekends we always start with a long leisurely breakfast, a light lunch, and then at night we tend to go to restaurants, or do take-out.
Fave Food Haunts?
I find it boring to always eat at the same place, and really enjoy trying a variety of places. It’s nice to pull up at somewhere we haven’t tried before. I also enjoy wandering around farmers markets and buying fresh produce on offer and then incorporating that in my menus.
Where to Shop?
I don’t need to shop for clothes so shoes are my obsession (or at least that’s my excuse). I love the department stores because they have a great selection, or Luisa, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc. As a shopper January is always fun to scour the various sales. When I am down at the coast I like to wander in and out of stores with no agenda of what I’m looking for… somehow I always seem to find something!
It goes without saying a bathing suit☺ I have at least a dozen options, but my current favorites’ are a bikini I picked up in Hawaii mid-last year. Then I usually wear shorts or white jeans with either the white Maya Caftan top, which also works as a great Bikini cover-up. If we’re staying over night I’ll pack a dress or silk cargo pants and a top that I can wear out to dinner.
