To know how to develop your own signature style, you first need to consider what makes a woman with great style? To me it’s simple…
1. She has her own style and has the confidence to stick to it. The repetition develops a signature.
2. She doesn’t get too experimental or over-influenced by trends, unless the element of shock and change IS her signature – but even those who are outrageous (think the late Isabella Blow) tend to be outrageous within the bounds of a particular silhouette.
3. She looks like she FEELS good in her clothes because she knows it is the confidence with which you wear your clothes that projects that special something that we associate with style.
My style revolves around a simple (…and comfortable) base. Generally a skinny jean and a Luxury T. To this I add an interesting shoe and either a jacket or in Summer maybe a beautiful necklace or scarf. Once you have your base or formula you can then play with fabrics or color rather than your silhouette.
A note on color though… for your base it’s best to stick with neutrals like the Jane Ramsay core palette of Black, White, Nude or Charcoal – OR neutral patterns like snakeskin or leopard print. It is a neutral color base like this that then works as the perfect foil against a seasonal shot of color that will keep your signature style up to date.
